Talent Initiatives

TALENT is the engine that drives Toronto’s robust Financial Services (FS) sector. Access to TALENT is critical to the success of existing FS firms and a key consideration for firms looking to establish their businesses in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

The mandate of Toronto Finance International’s (TFI’s) Talent Initiatives department is to grow the pool of in-demand “work-ready” talent available to the FS sector.

We act as a connector – strengthening collaboration and building bridges between our partners within industry, government and post-secondary institutions – to grow and sustain our long-term talent advantage.

We act as a catalyst – identifying and strategizing about today’s talent challenges, and proposing and leading system-wide initiatives that reap benefits for the FS sector.

One example in action is ASPIRE, a work-integrated learning (WIL) pilot program designed to create transformational change both in the way that students view the FS sector, and in their readiness to enter our workforce. To that end, our goal is to create 10,000 new WIL opportunities in the sector by the end of 2020.

We are also committed to executing and publishing action-oriented research that helps to align the talent-related efforts of employers, educators and government.

Current topics on our research agenda include:

  • The impact of the convergence and speed of technology on the nature of work, and narrowing the related skills gap; and
  • Winning the competition for talent by better understanding the target demographic.

These services are made possible through the generous support of financial sector employers, the City of Toronto and the Ontario Government.
