The Big Data Analytics stream is a master’s degree focusing on the rapidly growing field of data science. A professional program that can be completed in as little as one year, this exciting new stream prepares graduates with the tools and techniques they need to work with and understand big data. The program emphasizes practical skills in visualization, data mining, cloud-based approaches, and parallel programming skills and prepares graduates for careers including Data Scientist, Chief Data Officer, Data Solutions Architect, and Business Analyst.
Admission requirements include upper second class (77 or better) standing or its equivalent in a joint or single honours Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in one of the traditional disciplines. Also required is a university course in differential and integral calculus and one in probability and statistics or the equivalent, competency in programming at an elementary level in at least one computational language such as BASIC or FORTRAN, and a course in either differential equations or advanced statistics.
